New Year Decoration “Kadomatsu (Traditional Paired Bamboo)”
Kadomatsu is the traditional decoration for the Japanese new year. At the end of year, Japanese people set paired bamboo decorations at their entrance way. It is believed that new year’s bamboo brings happiness for families and all housemates.
Sakai Tadatsugu who works for the Tokugawa clan is very related to this new year’s tradition. He is also known about “Tokugawa 4 Guardians”.
One day, in December, their samurai corps got a heavy loss and their condition was in a crisis situation. At that time, Sakai Tadatsugu expressed his determination to win against the opponent Samurai corp. Then, he cut the new year’s bamboo decoration diagonally to pray for next time. And they won next year.
Because of his dynamic demonstration, all of the Tokugawa clan members were impressed and the team Tokugawa started promoting their authority and actual power. That’s the interesting history of the bamboo decoration “Kadomatsu”.
Thanks to his devoted work as the supreme commander, his lord “Tokugawa Ieyasu” could achieve the unification of Japan. He was always by the side of his boss, and supported well. “Sakai Tadatsugu” played an important role in their team. He was almost like Ieyasu’s airfoil or “Wing”. This is the beginning of amazing stories, “Wings”.
“Nagoya Style Chicken Wings”
Good subordinates raise their boss, and they can go far away, anywhere. Sakai Tadatsugu was the man. He was born in Mikawa area, Aichi prefecture. In my experience, good food also can travel all over the world. I used to cook and serve Aichi prefecture’s speciality, “Nagoya Style Chicken Wings” for American customers at the Japanese Restaurant in New York City. Our Japanese seasonings were slightly sweet, but they also enjoyed our Japanese Wing dishes very much. Everyday, when I finished my work, I felt relieved.
In the same way, we can find buffalo chicken on the restaurant menu easily in Japan. Buffalo Chicken Wing is a delicious appetizer, many people love hot and sour Buffalo sauce, and it’s really yummy.
The origin of its name is the name of the city “Buffalo” in New York States. Blue cheese sauce is also my favorite addition. Both regular one and Blue cheese are beautiful choices.

“The Kanji Character Means His Dedication”
Tokugawa Ieyasu had a lot of extremely excellent team members. Among them, Sakai Tadatsugu was the most favored Samurai. And he was the excellent commander of their team. Sakai Tadatsugu followed almost all Samurai battles with Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Sakai Tadatsugu had huge loyalty and reliability. He has the Kanji character “忠 Tada” on his name. This word means dedication and allegiance. They have been bound to each other by their confidential relationship since their childhood.
“Reliable Guardian”
When Tokugawa Ieyasu held as the hostage at enemie’s castle, Sakai Tadatsugu accompanied his boss there. They both spent restricted hostage life during 13 years. Even in such a horrible situation, they never gave up their Samurai life. In this way, they made their own government eventually, and it lasted 300 years.
Their life was never smooth at all, and those were almost like a “Bird Cage”. However, they could escape from difficult situations so many times, this is the conclusion of fantastic stories, “Wings”.
