Hashiba Hideyoshi① “What’s Sake Kasu & Moriguchi Duke?”

Phraseology

Hashiba Hideyoshi is one of 3 Samurai heroes in the 16th century, and he is also known as “Toyotomi Hideyoshi”. His Samurai stories were really like a roller-coaster, and he rose to stardom. He is the man who brought the country under his unification rule. Actually, he had a strong power to persuade other people. He was a talkative officer rather than a traditional samurai.

Why was Hideyoshi good at negotiating with opponents? Because he was not born in a Samurai’s family, he was born in a Farmers’ family. He didn’t care about reputation from other people, he just cared about the result of sessions at each single conference. He was never afraid of getting embarrassed, and already knows “The pen is mightier than the Samurai sword”.

Eventually, Hideyoshi became the Samurai leader of Japan. He achieved many Japanese cultural progress and he also loved Japanese Tea ceremonies. Because of “Toyotomi Hideyoshi”, this cultural tradition “Japanese Tea” became one of Japanese heritage.

In the 16th century, “Moriguchi Duke”  was a Japanese speciality which was originally made in Osaka city.  It was named by Hideyoshi. When he stopped by Osaka, he found this tasty pickles. Since, it was very good, he often brought it to his Japanese tea ceremony.

After 300 years, in modern times, “Moriguchi Duke” was reborn in Nagoya area. And soon, it became a famous speciality for Aichi Prefecture and Gifu Prefecture.

Both Nagoya and Osaka is strongly related to Hideyoshi’s Samurai life. However, nobody is not sure is this causal dependance with this nice and sweet Japanese pickles. One thing only I can say for sure is that it’s a delicious.
